The Technique of Delivering Interactive Lectures Using Internet Technologies

The article considers the new technique of delivering interactive lectures for students of higher technical educational institutions using the Internet. It is a well-known fact that the concentration of students’ attention decreases due to the use of mobile Internet (social networks, messengers, entertainment resources) during classes, lectures in particular. It is proved that the prohibitive ways of solving the problem like the prohibition of the use of mobile devices and the limitation of the technical capability of their use are counterproductive. A new form of lectures delivery, an interactive lecture-colloquium, which activates the students’ cognitive work during the lecture course, is offered and allows to better master the methods of searching for the necessary information that is dynamically changing. During the preparation for the class, the lecturer searches for the information on issues that need to be considered during the lecture using search engine WEB-services. It is necessary to find such search queries that are likely to lead to the references on reliable and relevant scientific resources on the first page of search results. During the class, the teacher announces subpoints of the subject, and students search for information using subpoints as search queries. The purpose of the students is to quickly evaluate the results of the search and create a collection of references or quotations of the materials in the summary. A student creates a summary as a text and graphic document locally or in a “cloud” environment. At the end of the lecture students send summaries to the teacher via e-mail. With the proposed approach, students use their gadgets in classrooms to gain professional information and skills to find and quickly evaluate it. Since gadgets are busy performing tasks, they do not distract the students from the lecture, or such distraction is minimized. The advantage of this work is that the students and the teacher find new sources of information that is relevant and up-to-date. At the end of the lecture, students have a self-created summary and links to relevant Internet resources. The proposed technology allows to switch the lecture from the model of tutor, mentor, moderator to the model of cooperation, when the teacher performs work simultaneously with students, receives similar results and has the opportunity to comment on them, singling out and summing up the important ones.
