Current Distortion Reduction of a Substation for the Power Supply of a Frequency Controlled Gas Cooling Plant

Gas cooling is an essential part of technological process when gas is transported via main pipelines. Keeping gas temperatures after its compression is implemented at gas-cooling units; each unit consists of several gas air-coolers. Equipping gas-cooling units with fans controlled by variable frequency drive leads to the need to solve the problem of electromagnetic compatibility in the power supply system of the compressor station. The problem is exacerbated when the power source is an autonomous energy source, for example, a gas turbine power plant. The article describes the solutions of this problem; also, a substation scheme that can be used to create new facilities for trunk transport and gas storage is proposed and investigated.
