Online Temperature Estimation of Stator Windings and Rotor Magnets for Six-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

Estimation of temperatures in permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) plays a crucial role in monitoring the health of electrical machines and improving the performance of electrical drives. This paper presents a method for simultaneously measuring the stator resistance and determining the temperature of the rotor magnets of a six-phase PMSM. The proposed algorithm monitors the health condition of the electric drive. It also evaluates any asymmetry in the stator circuit and the magnetization of the permanent magnets.Experimental tests on a six-phase PMSM confirm the feasibility of the method described in the paper.
