Performance Analysis and Optimization of Triple Junction Tandem Organic Solar Cell Via Optical and Electrical Modelling

Organic Solar Cells (OSCs) aim to provide an eco-friendly and sustainable photovoltaic solution to the future renewable energy sources. Due to its high efficiency, tandem OSCs are being studied extensively in recent times. In this work, both fullerene and non-fullerene derivatives are incorporated as acceptor for different organic materials to obtain high performing solar cells. The optical and electrical modeling of several organic materials have been investigated in order to discover the suitable materials for efficient tandem OSCs. With the optimization of the active layer thickness and charge carrier mobility, the optical absorption efficiency has increased noticeably. The highest Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE) estimated after necessary optimization is ~ 31%, with a Short Circuit Current Density (J

) of ~ 60.07mA/cm

, Open Circuit Voltage (V
OC
) of 0.663 V and Fill Factor (FF) of 77.82%. With rapid development of donor polymer and device performance, OSCs have great potential to be a very good substitute to traditional inorganic solar cells.
