Implementation of Wide band Satellite Telemetry Data Receiver using SDR and Matlab

Implementation of wide band satellite telemetry data receiver with re-configurability for different data rates is presented in this paper, which can be used by the educational institutions for downloading telemetry data from small satellites to carryout research. The design is based on SDR and Matlab Simulink and it is designed to receive data from satellites in UHF/VHF and S-Bands. For UHF/VHF frequencies the signal is directly feed to SDR, whereas for receiving S-Band (2200MHz-2300MHz), a frequency down-converter is used to get IF signal of 70MHz. The In-phase and Quadrature samples from SDR USB port are fed to Matlab Simulink, followed by symbol timing, carrier and frame synchronization are carried out in Matlab. In this paper implementation of BPSK demodulation is demonstrated for different data rates.
