Novel Variable-Structure PD Controller for Satellite Attitude Control

A novel controller based on variable-structure principle is proposed for satellite attitude control. This variable-structure controller does not lead to a sliding mode and, respectively, to chattering, which makes it suitable for practical implementation. Comparative analysis based on numerical simulations shows that significant improvement over the classical PD controller in transient performance is possible using the proposed controller.
