RF Coexistence Testing on Wireless Medical Patient Monitoring Device

This paper implements test methodologies described in ANSI C63.27 to perform wireless coexistence measurements and proposes the use of a novel interference signal strategy to extend the complexity of wireless medical telemetry device testing in an environment that reflects worst case RF conditions. It is difficult to comprehensively identify and quantify wireless parameters for Medical Grade Networks. In this paper, a wireless medical patient monitoring device is tested for its coexistence performance using simulated wideband modulated interference signals with 100^% channel utilization. This body of work employs novel instrumented approaches for realizing highly configurable physical radio frequency (RF) challenges typically encountered in a hospital environment. This method is used to characterize in-band and out-of-band interference handling of a wireless medical telemetry device. Additionally, a novel approach on receiver robustness characterization is implemented.
