A Real-Time Control Approach for Multi-Source Input Non-Isolated Bidirectional DC-DC Converter

Multi-source inputs can accept non-isolated topologies of dc-dc converters. This paper aims to demonstrate real-time control operations on multiple source-based topologies using a non-isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. First, the overall principle of topology is derived from a non-isolated bidirectional converter with a multi-source configuration. Secondly, the model is simulated on the MATLAB platform by integrating PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) voltage-type ports. Then, the proposed topology of the multiple-source-based DC-DC converter is converted to a real-time environment using the Opal-RT hardware. In particular, a flow diagram for the design technique is provided to facilitate the topology validation process using Opal RT. Finally, the model’s effectiveness mentioned above is validated on closed-loop control under a real-time platform for various converter operating modes.
