LiNbO3 Waveguide for Efficient CW THz Generation

A single pass lithium niobate (LN) waveguide is presented, which simulations suggest can generate monochromatic terahertz (THz) frequency radiation over a broad spectral range at room temperature in continuous wave operation. This waveguide achieves sufficiently high intensity to provide efficient optical-to-THz conversion by making use of thin-film LN and a high confinement. Operation up to 5 THz is expected.
