Modified Waveguide Flange Mechanical Design for Compactness of THz Sources

A modified waveguide flange is designed and implemented for compact integration of sub-millimeter-wave components. The proposed modified waveguide flange is fully compatible with the standard traditionally used millimeter-wave (mmW) and sub-millimeter-wave (sub-mmW) UG-387/UM flange, allowing a significant miniaturization of high frequency multipliers and their integration with antennas and other standard market RF components. The presented flange has been used at ACST to develop high power and full-band THz sources and compact sources, covering from 330GHz to 900GHz. This modification is expected to allow future development of sources up to 1.5 THz. This new proposed flange allows the minimization of internal propagation losses, and it adds compactness and flexibility for different applications in the THz range.
