Joint Optimization of Complex Amplitude Modulation on HEMT-Meta Array

Aiming at the laboring issue on reconfigurable metasurfaces, this paper proposes an efficient Matlab-CST joint optimization process for terahertz beam steering on the HEMT-meta array. To improve the beam steering performance, the Matlab program automatically executes optimization process on CST parameter screening for the best reflectance and 1-bit coding phase shift. Furthermore, an automatic CST arraying applies on the HEMT-meta coding array by the Matlab program, which significantly reduces the time-consuming procedure for beam steering verification on the large-sized antenna array. The CST simulation and numerical calculation corroborate the feasibility of the joint optimization, proofing with bandwidth increment from 0.2% to 5.71%, reflection coefficient increment from 4% to 34.1%, and beam steering performance in the 0.3-0.4 THz range. The proposed method significantly improves beam steering metasurfaces’ design efficiency and performance.
