Better Design for Reliability with Fast and Effective Specification Comparison

In the automotive industry a fully employed Reliability Engineering program is expected to support both existing and new components all along the development line (from early in the concept stage all the way to in-field usage).From a supplier perspective, the role of the reliability engineer is to make sure that the products delivered to the customer meet the reliability targets and that the final user’s reliability expectations are met. The whole process, commonly known as Design for Reliability (DfR), envelops many methods and tools standardized inside the organization, which are deployed to assure the required level of reliability into the final delivered products. This presentation gives some examples of possible ways of comparing the severity of validation specifications for heat exchangers whose failure mode is provoked by cumulative material fatigue stress loadings.
