New Pleated Filters for Cement Kiln Baghouses and Other High-Temperature Applications

Cement plants today are pressed to operate above design capacity while being subjected to ever-tightening air emission restrictions as a result of environmental regulations. This means that the demands on air pollution control equipment connected to the cement kiln are greater than ever before. Pleated filters have been in use in industrial applications for more than 20 years. They offer several benefits over traditional filter bags and cages such as ease of both installation and removal, reduced air-to-cloth ratio, lower operating differential pressure, and in some cases longer filter life. Until now, there have been many design challenges in creating a pleated filter that can operate continuously at 500°F (260°C) for use in cement kiln baghouses. This paper will introduce you to a new high-temperature pleated filter design. In addition, this new 500°F (260°C) rated pleated filter design is shown to achieve enhanced compartmental flow distribution results when operated at favored lower operating differential pressures when installed and used together with traditional long bags in the same baghouse. This paper will show the novel application of a dual pleated bag filter configuration operated at 500°F (260°C) under high can velocity using advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling.
