Research on the Electromagnetic Environment of the Airborne VLF DTWA

Airborne very low frequency (VLF) radio has great transmitting power and the ability for long distance communication, however, the HPEM field generated by airborne VLF antenna has a great threaten to the airborne equipment and personnel. Due to the irregular configuration of the antenna and the fuselage as a part of the antenna, the electromagnetic environment in the aircraft is very complex. In this paper, the electromagnetic environment of the airborne dual trailing wire antenna (DTWA) is simulated. The EM field and the surface current of the aircraft is calculated and the effect of the fuselage apertures is analyzed. The conclusions are helpful for the further research on the application of airborne VLF communication system.
