Optimization and Management of Residential Energy Load Using PSO and WOA

Lately significant investment is being conducted in the smart grids area in order to address the reliability, flexibility, accessibility and economic aspects. Therefore, a proper management system is essential to reduce the cost of both production and consumption of energy. In this paper, the objective of our optimization problem is to minimize the total electricity cost of a residential system based on renewable energy sources which are solar panel and wind turbine, and a battery storage system, connected to the main grid through a bidirectional inverter. Two meta-heuristic optimization methods were used to achieve the objective, the first one is particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the second one is the whale optimization algorithm (WOA). The results obtained showed that the best reduction in total electricity cost was made by using the WOA method.
