Power Quality Improvement of Grid-connected EV Charging Station using DSTATCOM

In recent scenarios, the electric vehicle (EV) technology is growing rapidly because of proliferation of power electronics equipment's. In particular, the
$\mathbf{EV}^{\prime} \mathrm{s}$
are not only eliminating the carbon footprints but also reducing the running cost of vehicles. Therefore, several EV charging stations are joining into the existing electrical grid in order to charge the batteries operated vehicles. However, electric vehicles based on power electronics devices introduces harmonics into the system. As a result, the power quality (PQ) of the electrical system degrades and causes some serious issues related to the power system stability. In order to overcome this problem, a distributed static compensator (DSTATCOM) is designed for the distribution network end by considering the highly non-linear loading in EV charging scenario. The model consists of charging stations and DSTATCOM, developed in MATLAB/Simulink environment using
$dq$
control strategy and tested for various scenarios. The robustness of the designed model is validated by comparing the grid side current and voltage waveforms with standard IEEE test systems.
