Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a physics-based approach to simulate the ice skating experience in virtual reality. While banding two VR controllers on the shoes, the virtual ice shoes will be tracked accurately in a virtual scene. As shown in the experimental results, when a user is sliding the shoes in a stationary boundary in the real world, the displacement of the shoes can be applied to apply force onto the virtual headset according to physics rules. So that through the vision rendered in the VR headset, the user can feel the motion in the virtual scene as if skating in a real ice rink. By demonstrating the simulation experimental results, we validate that our approach for simulating the ice skating experience in VR is realistic compared to the real ice skating experiences.
