On the Smallness of Small Antennas

This paper explores the notion of current limits of the smallness of the small antennas. Our current activities focus on High Frequency (2-30 MHz) and Very High Frequency (30-90 MHz) bands for both long-range communication and jammer applications. In both cases, the antenna size together with their installation on relevant vehicle platforms often exceeds the maximum authorized height. Hence, we question ourselves about the real smallness of the small antennas that we can design based on the current theories. This contribution provides an extensive review with some simulations to verify the preliminary ideas and arouse the curiosity of a wider electromagnetic community to discuss the extreme limit of antenna miniaturization.
