Wideband MIMO Antenna Array Design With High Isolation by Using Metasurface

This paper presents a novel metasurface to enhance the isolation of the dual-element wideband MIMO antenna array. The metasurface is consists of conventional cross-shaped periodic units. The reflection of the space waves from the MS has the same amplitude and opposite phase, which can enable cancellation with the direct coupling component of the antenna array. Based on the decoupling mechanism, the isolation of the antenna array can be improved from 15 dB to more than 25 dB within the bandwidth of 4.13-4.89 GHz. Since the cancellation in the normal direction, the radiation of the array has a slight deterioration.
