A PIFA Design with WLAN and Wi-Fi 6E Band for Laptop Computer Applications

A small-size (18.2×5×0.4 mm³) planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) design working across the WLAN band (2.4 / 5 GHz) and Wi-Fi 6E band (5.925–7.125 GHz) is proposed for laptop computer applications. By modifying the PIFA structure (with bending and slot-loading), it can excite two resonant modes at 2.4 and 5.5 GHz, which can cover the entire WLAN frequency bands (2.4/5 GHz). To further cover the Wi-Fi 6E (5.925–7.125 GHz) band without affecting the original PIFA performances, a U-shaped parasitic element is printed behind the PIFA structure so that an additional resonant mode at 6.5 GHz is excited.
