A 220 GHz Electronically-Scanning High-Gian Reflector Antenna with a Small-Scale Array Feeder

A 220 GHz electronically-scanning high-gain reflector antenna with a small-scale array feeder is presented in this paper. Multi-variables of the array feeder including the element spacing, defocused distance, and spatial tilting angle as well as the exciting amplitude and phase are optimized to achieve a multi-objective optimization including the beam coverage and scanning loss. Then, three independently 1×4 linear arrays are designed based on a 50-um quartz substrate to verify the scanning performance at 220 GHz. Simulation results present a good scanning performance with a –5.5° ~ 6.5° beam coverage, 40 dBi maximum gain, and 2.6 dB scanning loss, showing good prospects in applications of terahertz detection, inter-satellite communication, and next-generation wireless communications.
