Analytical Comparison of Electromagnetic Pulse Propagation in Normal and Malignant Breast Tissues

Experimentally measured dielectric data for normal and malignant breast tissues, which are represented by respective single pole Cole-Cole models, are utilized in an asymptotic analysis of the propagated field in chirped Gaussian pulse propagation. The accuracy of the obtained asymptotic description is compared and verified with purely numerical results. This asymptotic approach provides increased analytical insight regarding the dependence of the propagated field dynamics on the input field and breast tissue parameters and upon the propagation distance. Moreover, it enables an analytical comparison of the electromagnetic response of healthy versus cancerous breast tissues.
