A Sequentially Rotated 2×2 Helix Antenna Array

In this paper, first, a single element of a novel helix antenna based on printed circuit board (PCB) technology with high efficiency, broadband, and low front-to-back ratio for WLAN applications, is presented. The simulated results indicate that the impedance bandwidth of the proposed helical antenna for S11 < −10 dB is about 24.8% from 5.3 to 6.8 GHz. While AR bandwidth for AR < 3 dB is about 19% from 5.45 to 6.6 GHz. The proposed helical antenna is used as a basic radiating element to design a 2×2 helical array. In the proposed 2×2 array, the sequential rotation technique has been used to increase AR bandwidth. Simulated results indicate that the impedance bandwidth of the proposed array for S11 < −10 dB is 24.8% from 5.3 to 6.8 GHz. While AR bandwidth covers over the whole impedance bandwidth.
