A Checkerboard Metasurface Based on Staggered Triangular Arrangement for RCS Reduction

In this paper, we propose a checkerboard meta-surface that efficiently reduces radar cross section(RCS) using phase-cancelling units arranged in staggered triangles. Firstly, a metasurface unit with phase cancellation is constructed by Pancharatnam-Berry(PB) phase concept, and the phase cancellation is achieved by the linear relationship between the unit rotation angle and the reflection phase. The metasurface cell structure realizes 180^◦reflection phase difference in a wide band, and uses a staggered triangular arrangement to combine the elements. The reflection metasurface realizes the RCS reduction from 9.56GHz to 20.0GHz larger than 10 dB. The structure can be not only effectively reduced in the broadband, but also helpful to the reduce RCS to a certain extent.
