Angle of Arrival and Angle of Departure Analysis in Scattering Environment for THz Wireless Links

Terahertz (THz) spectrum is taking center stage in achieving 1 Tb/s high data rate wireless communication. At THz frequencies, the wave propagation characteristics witnessed in a scattering environment scenario seem quite complex. Previous works interpret the electromagnetic wave scattering phenomenon from real surfaces utilizing mainly scattering models of Rayleigh-Rice (R-R) and Beckmann-Kirchhoff (B-K). However, these presume surface topographic irregularities of a random rough surface (RRS) in statistical terms, thus disregarding the physical nature of the irregularities. Contrastingly, the real 3D surfaces randomly vary in time and space, whereby not only the amplitude and phase of the waves fluctuate rather the angles of arrival and departure are also impacted. In this paper, we therefore endeavor to study multipath propagation taking into account R-R approach and real 3D surfaces at 300 GHz carrier frequency. The comparative study is carried out in a realistic simple office environment with different surface roughnesses for both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) conditions.
