SUN Glint Correction of HY-1C/COCTS Imagery

Sun glint, the specular reflection of beam from the rough water surface, is a severe confounding factor of cloud detection in open water, the existence of sun glint can interfere with the reflectance leading to the inaccurate cloud mask and the restrictions of satellite observations. In this paper, the statistical sea surface specular Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) model is implemented to correct the sun glint contamination. The model is applied to the visible channel data of HY-1C/COCTS L1B products. The result is validated against the MODIS imagery without sun glint and is shown to be in good consistency.
