The Contribution of Remote Sensing to the Development of an Observatory System for Integrated Management of the Coastal Zone: The Case Study of Central Macedonia, Greece

This study aims to present the fundamental elements that served as the backbone for the development of a GIS system for the management of Earth-Observation (EO) as well as other forms of geospatial data, in the framework of an operational system for monitoring the coastal zone of the Region of Central Macedonia (RCM), Greece. In this context, the study elaborates on the developed methodologies, which are based on EO data, as well as the mathematical tools used to model the various processes manifested in the coastal zone. Finally, an assessment of the presented methodologies and tools is made, along with proposals regarding the management and development of the coastal zone.
