VIIRS Monitoring and Reporting on Lit Fishing Vessel Detections in Southeast Asia

The Earth Observation Group produces a nightly survey of offshore light sources detected by the VIIRS day/night band. Most of these are fishing boats using lights to attract catch, a widely used practice in S.E. Asia. This paper reviews the VIIRS boat detection product, annual and monthly summary grids and near real time detection alerts.
