Capture of the Lekima Typhoon Event by HY-2B Altimetry

Satellite altimeters play an important role in the research of the Typhoon events for it can retrieve the SWH and SLA simultaneously. To exploit the potentials of China's satellite altimetry in monitoring the Typhoon events, we carried out a case study to investigate the response of China. It can be clearly shown that, at the areas approaching to the Typhoon center, the altimeter SWH significantly increases. When we execute specified retracking of the waveforms, an interesting feature is found: the retrieved SWH and range epoch series have similar patterns, and their correlative coefficient is high.
