Analysis of Operation Characteristics of an AC All Electric Propulsion System without Converters

An novel AC all electric propulsion system without converters could increase power density and reduce the vibration noise. However, in this electric propulsion system, the cancel of converters between generator and propulsion motor made their speeds and parameters coupled directly, which resulted in the high order model of the system and strong coupling of generator and propulsion motor. The system was theoretically and mathematically modeled, and operation characteristics and function relationships of main electric variables were analyzed theoretically under different parameters matching conditions. Digital simulation on a typical electric propulsion system was carried out, the comparison of the simulated results with that of theoretical calculation verified the validity and precision of the theoretical analysis.
