Measurements of Small-angle X-ray Scattering for Cement Paste Samples with Light Water and Heavy Water

In-situ measurements of small-angle X-ray scattering were conducted for two cement paste samples using a laboratory-based instrument at Hokkaido University. The cement paste samples were prepared from ordinary Portland cement and water: light water or heavy water. The time-evolution of the intensity of small-angle X-ray scattering profile was obtained for each of the cement paste samples in the age from 1 to 73 h. The intensities in the magnitude of scattering vector q from 0.3 to 5 nm
^-1
increased as a function of the age. A shoulder, which corresponds to a fine structure, was observed at around q = 3 nm
^-1
in these profiles. The fine structure formed on the cement paste sample with heavy water was same on the cement paste sample with light water. However, the formation speed of the nanostructure was different between two samples. From the viewpoint of the formation speed, we have planned a small-angle neutron scattering measurement using an accelerator-driven neutron source facility at Hokkaido University.
