Characterization of Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields in Two Unoccupied Residential Buildings Proximal to the Network Base-Station

The study aimed at determining the RF EMF exposure levels in two unoccupied residential apartments proximal to the network-base station in a peri-urban setting. TM-196 3 Axis RF Field strength meter was used to measure the RF EMF levels in six different rooms of the buildings, during various time intervals; 8AM, 3PM and 7:30PM. in the lounge area of residential building 2, and the lowest exposure value was 15.5 $\mu$w/m

found in the balcony of building 1. ANOVA suggested a statistical non-significance when measurements obtained at various time intervals were compared (p<0.94 and p<0.54). Also, the comparison between residential building 1 and 2 was statistically non-significance (p<0.50). The lower RF EMF levels were as a result of the reflective building structures, since no vegetation could be spotted during measurement planning period. The Peak RF levels were noted as a result of increased network activities in the neighboring residential house. Measured RF levels were below the reference levels found in the ICNIRP RF guidelines. The results obtained could be used as RF exposure indicator for benchmarking residential houses commissioned with RF devices and those without, proximal to network-base stations.
