Curative redispatch employing distributed flexibility

Ongoing efforts to abate anthropogenic climate change by decarbonizing the production of electrity comprise the phase-out of large power stations in favor of decentralized renewable energy sources. This leads to complex grid situations which are intensified by decline of system services from fossil power plants. To alleviate this issue decentralized flexibility options can be utilized to provide system services in general and curative redispatch in particular. The operation of decentralized flexibility options in curative redispatch is a complex task in terms of control and optimization that is convenient to be facilitated by algorithms. In this work, a detailed future scenario for a control area is developed and integrated in a grid simulator for dispatcher trainings reproducing a real control room. At the high voltage nodes of the system the existence of different flexibility options is assumed and their operation is optimized to alleviate grid congestions. It is shown to what extent an impact on the load levels of the branches is possible and that decentralized flexibility can indeed help to ensure the (N-1)-security criterion.
