On the issue of analysis and correction of distortions of the Earth’s field in the rooms of hospitals based on 3D computational models

The paper considers possible distortions of Earth’s magnetic field caused by steel reinforcement of the walls of a protective vault of the radiation therapy (RT) center. To analyze the geomagnetic situation inside the bunker, a methodology and a computational model have been developed. Simulated spatial distributions of the magnetic field allow making a decision on the compensation of the field distortions, if necessary. Parametric simulations are made with the EM code KLONDIKE. Generated database makes it possible to quickly select parameters of an active correction system. Capabilities of the computational model are expandable by integration of additional field sources. An example is given that demonstrates the possibility to compensate hypomagnetic field with two ring coils with low power consumption. The study has been made for the RT clinical center recently commissioned in Senegal.
