Numerical Simulation of the Application of Renewable Energies Methodologies in 3D Auditorium Geometry for Summer Conditions

An application of renewable energies methodologies in a three-dimensional auditorium geometry, for summer conditions, is presented in this numerical study. This study is done using software to simulate the auditorium thermal response and to calculate the temperature distribution, thermal comfort and air quality inside the space. The designed auditorium has a shading system in order to limit the entry of solar radiation and a cooling system based on the use of cold air ventilated from an underground space. The three-dimensional geometry of the auditorium is developed from Computer Aided Design. Using cylindrical coordinates, a numerical model is developed to define the equations system and, therefore, to calculate the temperatures and contaminants distribution inside the auditorium. This space is occupied by 330 people seated. The thermal comfort is assessed by the Predicted Mean Vote index. The indoor air quality is assessed by carbon dioxide concentration. The results obtained show that the combined use of a shading system and an underground space improves thermal comfort conditions for the occupants.
