Additive Manufacturing of Soft Ferromagnetic Fe 6.5%Si Annular Cores: Process Parameters, Microstructure, and Magnetic Properties

The laser beam melting (LBM) additive manufacturing (AM) technology is used for processing a high silicon steel (Fe 6.5%wtSi). The effects of LBM machine parameters over microstructure and magnetic properties are studied. Particular attention is dedicated to determining the influence of a normalized energy density over the material density, the grain size, and the crystallographic texture and their impact on the magnetic properties: magnetic flux density and coercivity.
