Play to Play: A Net-Hitting Motion Based Video Game to Enhance Real Baseball Batting Skill

Motion sensing technology has advanced in recent years, and it is now incorporated into many sports related video games. However, the body motions enforced in the game often provide the opportunity to exercise but lack in terms of providing practice of the sport skills. This paper presents an innovative baseball motion-based game. The real baseball bat is used as the game controller, with actual swings as interactive inputs. The typical net-batting training drill was successfully transformed into a game. The field test demonstrated that better real batting skills can result in higher game points, and therefore proves that the desire to achieve higher game points can drive the players to play to enhance their real-life batting skills.
