Component-Based Design Optimization of Multirotor Aircraft

Component-based design is a common practice in engineering system design, and the problem of selecting components to optimize a system has gained traction in the literature. Existing approaches typically solve the discrete problem directly or parameterize the components and solve the problem in the continuous domain. This paper develops a hybrid methodology for component-based design optimization that leverages continuous-domain information to efficiently search the discrete design space. As an example, the process is applied to a quadrotor system to maximize a business-oriented objective function.
