A Fuzzy Logic Approach for the Determination of Carabao Mango Ripeness Level and Shelf Life

This study developed a system that can determine the ripeness level and shelf life of Carabao mangoes using its ethylene gas emission and color frequency changes through the fuzzy logic algorithm. MATLAB was used both to implement the fuzzy logic algorithm and the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the system. The MQ3 and TCS3200 sensors and the Raspberry Pi 3B+ were used to form the system hardware. The algorithm was developed through a data-gathering process from the unripe to the rotten stages of twenty (20) Carabao mango samples. The resulting system was tested using forty (40) samples, ten (10) of each from the unripe, ripe, overripe, and rotten classifications. The output was analyzed through a confusion matrix. The accuracy score was computed and resulted in 95%. Carabao mango farmers, sellers, consumers, and the agriculture department would be considered beneficiaries of this study for the classification of Carabao mangoes through human senses will be replaced by an automated system.
