Abstract:

This paper is about underground coal gasification to produce syngas and producing fuel from syngas in Bara-pukuria coal mine. Using the un-extracted or un-extractable coal in Barapukuria coal seam is our main target. Barapukuria Coal Field is a deposition of coal in the subsurface area of the field. These coals are extracted from underground with the use of longwall mining method. But in these coal field a huge coal layer is predicted below the depth that is mined for coal extraction. Coal extraction from this depth is not economically viable. Coal from this depth can be utilized to produce syngas. UCG that means underground coal gasification process is used to produce syn or synthetic gas. In UCG methods, through the injection well, air is inserted. Then the inserted air reacts with coal to form CO-H2 mixture which refers to syngas. Syngas then produce from a production well. After that the syngas is converted to fuel. FT (Fischer-Tropsch) synthesis process is a catalytic chemical method which is used to make hydrocarbon fuels and other chemical products from syngas. This syngas is provided in a FT reactor as feedstock. The carbon and H2 of Syngas create (-CH2) polymer. Fischer-Tropsch synthesis plant can be operated in high and low both temperature with the catalyst Fe and Co. In this reactor in 2: 1 ratio H2 and CO is injected which can be converted to wax and light wax/light oil. Then the hydrocracking process is developed which break the bond and makesmaller hydrocarbon according to our needs. For this process distillation techniques should be used to make desired hydrocarbon like Naphtha, Kerosene, distillates like FT diesel/ FT jet fuel/ Other FT products. These are worked as the fuel. These fuels are not renewable as they can be obtained from crude oil. But with the help of FT synthesis from syngas we can make non-renewable fuel to renewable fuel.
