Remote Sensing Based Crop Monitoring System

Agriculture is the most common livelihood for about 58 percent of India's population and India is the second largest producer of the world's major food staples. Indian farmers follow and practice traditional farming with minimum use of technologies even though they face major issues during crop cultivation, varying from soil not fit for crops to unfavorable weather conditions. Technologies such as remote sensing help in the easy monitoring of various agricultural parameters like mineral and moisture composition of the soil, crop suitability of the soil, and weather forecast. Vegetation indexes help in determining these parameters using satellite data, which helps farmers to monitor their fields on a regular basis.
