Determination of CuO Concentration for ZnO-NRs/P3HT/CuO as the Potential Thin Film in Solar Cell Application

Zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO-NRs), poly(3-hexylthiphene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) and copper oxide (CuO) were fabricated and characterized as the potential thin film to be applied as solar cells. The optimized concentration of CuO layer was determined by varying the concentration in the range of 0.1 - 0.5M. The concentration of the CuO layer was explored in order to verify the most suitable characteristics and properties as the solar cell. In this study, CuO layer function as the hole transport layer, thus it could improve the photovoltaic performance of the solar cells. Chemical bath deposition (CBD) was used to grown ZnO-NRs on the spin coated ZnO seed layer, while P3HT and CuO layers were deposited via sol-gel spin coating technique. As for the solar cell evaluation, the absorption for all samples fabricated were compared. According to the UV-Vis characterization, ZnO-NRs/P3HT/CuO deposited with 0.5M CuO exhibit highest absorbance value, which indicate that the optimized concentration is 0.5M.
