A study on the Influence of the Transformer on Cross-Regulationin DCM Multi-Output Flybacks

The multi-output DCM flyback (Discontinuous Conduction Mode) is a popular architecture for low-power converters (<100W) thanks to its low number of components, making it simple, reliable, cheap and able to power numerous loads. These advantages are however mitigated by voltage deviations due to poor cross-regulation, making extra regulation equipment necessary, thus adding complexity, costs and reducing the efficiency. In this paper, we use a Finite Element Method (FEM) model of a transformer to obtain a global explanation of the influence of the transformer on cross-regulation, along with general recommendations for a better transformer design.
