Multi-Function Dual UWB Patch Antenna for Modern Communications

This paper proposes a new dual ultra-wideband microstrip patch antenna designed for 5G communications (sub-6 GHz and mm-wave), WiFi-5, WiFi-6, and 10 GHz applications. This design was introduced by inserting a circular slot on the top surface of a rectangular patch antenna and an E-shaped parasitic patch placed in the center of the circular slot. Also, a partial elliptical shape ground plane has been used to enhance the bandwidth of the antenna. The proposed antenna exhibits a dual ultra-wideband. The first band operates from 3.94 GHz to 19.6 GHz with 133.05% fractional bandwidth (FBW) covering (n80 and n77) sub-6 GHz 5G communication bands, the complete bandwidth of WiFi-5, WiFi-6, and both amateur radio and amateur satellite bands. While the second one operates from 20.82 GHz to 29.34 GHz with 33.97% FBW covering (n257, n258, n261) mm-wave 5G bands. The substrate material used in the proposed antenna is a low-cost FR4 substrate that has a relative permittivity of 4.4 and a dimension of 32 mm × 34 mm and 1.6 mm thickness. The obtained results of the proposed antenna have been simulated using HFSS software.
