A Look at the Ethical Principles of the Psychologist’s Work in the Context of the Development of Information Technology

The article deals with the use of modern information and communication technologies in the process of psychological counseling based on the experience of the Russian society. The authors analyze the advantages and disadvantages of online psychologist — client interaction in terms of basic ethical principles of psychotherapy which was described in the Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists. The paper presents the results of the survey, which indicates a great importance of confidentiality for the respondents in their counseling with the psychologist and how potential clients react to psychologists’ advertising on the Internet. In the process of considering possible violations of ethical principles in the psychologist’s work using digital information and communication technologies, the main problem areas were formulated. First, it is necessary to create tools and methods to preserve privacy of psychotherapeutic interaction. Secondly, there is a need to develop ethical rules for the promotion of psychological services on the Internet, especially on social networks.
