A Charging Management System for Multi-Vessel Shore-to-Ship Charging Systems by Hybrid dynamical systems

In this paper, a load management strategy for a multi-vessel Shore-to-Ship Charging (S2SC) system supported by On-Shore Batteries (OSB) is proposed. This strategy is referred to as a Charging Management System (CMS) and regulates the charging power references for the On-board Batteries (OBB) in order to adapt to the variable charging demand by OSB scheduling, load shaping, and grid power. Such CMS implicitly ensures the reference tracking of the SoC of the OSB and prevents peak loads on the grid. Here, this CMS is modeled based on the hybrid dynamical system paradigm, capturing the continuous and discrete behaviors of the system. As a result, this CMS can reduce operating costs and improve the availability of the S2SC system by adjusting the deviations from the forecasted load demand. Further, this CMS can be adapted for future S2SC systems supplying multiple vessels with various charging profiles.
