Evaluation of photovoltaic penetration effect on frequency stability of Guadeloupe island grid

Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are the energy sources of the future. However, RES has negative effects on system stability because of their intermittency and low inertia characteristics, especially frequency stability. This paper has done an extensive study on the frequency stability of the Guadeloupe grid with high penetration of photovoltaic (PV) sources. Based on the simulation of the Guadeloupe grid with different scenarios in two cases: short-circuit and the outage generator disturbances, the study estimates the maximum penetration of RES in the Guadeloupe grid. After that, the research validates the effectiveness of the FRT solution. The results obtained show the significant impact of RES on frequency stability of the island grid as well as high performance of FRT method to improve stability of the system.
