Compact High-Efficient 2.4/5.8 GHz Concurrent Dualband Rectifier using Tapered Microstrip Lines

In this paper a concurrent dualband rectifier is presented. The design concept is based on the inductive matching technique to reach concurrent dualband matching. Optimum inductance is firstly estimated for each individual band and a network, used to generate the optimum inductance at each frequency, is synthesised. A prototype is designed, implemented, and measured. It employs two tapered microstrip lines to perform the input matching as an example. Measured peak efficiency is 78.14% at 2.4 GHz and 76.3% at 5.8 GHz, respectively. The measured reflection coefficient is below -15dB at 2.4 GHz and -26dB at 5.8 GHz. The prototype demonstrates good efficiencies for both operation bands and furthermore, the fabricated PCB size is only 28 mm × 28 mm. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this prototype achieves the highest efficiencies among 2.4 GHz/5.8 GHz concurrent dualband designs to date due to the proposed compact matching technique.
