Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Coconut Coir Substrate and its Comparison with FR4 Based Antenna

In the field of antenna design, there is always a need for alternatives that help to reduce the overall production cost without compromising the performance. The substrate selection is a significant step in the design and manufacturing of an antenna. The most widely used substrates for the antenna are FR4, Duroid, Roger 4350, and Bakelite. Depending on the application of antenna, FR4 is comparatively economical among the four. This paper aims to design a microstrip patch antenna using coconut coir substrate and compares its performance with FR4 based microstrip antenna at 2.4 GHz. With its flexible and robust nature, nano cellulose from coconut coir can be used as an alternative to low dielectric substrates (dielectric < 4) due to the economic and environmental advantages.
