Optimal Placement of Faulted Circuit Indicators in Radial Distribution Systems

The usage of feeder automation (FA) is increasing day by day among utilities for improving distribution system reliability. The FA includes fault detection, isolation, and service restoration (FDISR). FA mainly uses safety devices such as reclosers, faulted circuit indicators (FCIs), circuit breakers, and switches. The use of these devices ensures high-level reliability, at the cost of budgetary limits. This paper proposes a novel optimization model aimed to maximize the distribution owner's profit. The model described in this paper is based on cost-worth research. The acquainted model aims to place
$FCIs$
at optimal locations in the system. Utilities always try to maximize their profit in a deregulated and competitive environment. The proposed model uses mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) to bus 4 of the reliability bus bar test system (RBTS). The test findings support the suggested model's viability and applicability.
